Will water help me lose weight?
Does drinking lots of water help you lose weight? Water is actually an important KEY to weight loss! To explain just how this affects our diet, I need to back up a bit first and take a snapshot of our modern lifestyle.
In modern western culture so many things are available to us that there is little we do out of necessity. We choose clothing by style, food by taste, entertainment by preference, the list goes on and on.
Every wish is satisfied as quickly as possible. This is especially true when we want food, and it can destroy our attempts to lose weight. When we’re hungry, we grab the first thing that comes into our awareness and attracts our attention.
What we don’t often do is stop and listen to what our body is trying to tell us. Unfortunately, this can cause us to read the signals our body is sending wrong. Do you know what is one of the most common signals to misread? Thirst! We tend to think we’re hungry when we’re really thirsty.
It is typical for us to reach for food when what our body really wants is water. By drinking enough water, you will keep your body from having to send these thirst signals at all. Drinking a lot of water can stop many of your diet-killing cravings. So reach for a glas of water BEFORE you reach for a snack!
It is okay to add other drinks as allowed by the diet you are following, but most of what you drink should be just plain water, especialy with food. When you’re eating, you are already getting plenty of flavor from your food, right?
I have made a life-long study of nutrition. I absolutely agree with the pundits who say that 8 (8 oz) glasses of water is a terrific goal. If you are not in the "water habit" shoot for that, and stay there until it feels comfortable. When you’re ready, it can help to go as high as 8 glasses a day. (You can go as high as 12 glasses, but remember that you’re better off sticking solidly with your comfort level than pushing this so hard that you throw yourself off track .
